The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will manage Perennial Systems Research Program research activities at the Rodale Institute main campus in Kutztown, PA. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will manage and coordinate field and laboratory trials, collect data, process samples, analyze data, prepare research reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, educational materials, and grant proposals. This individual will also present research findings at regional and national scientific and grower conferences. The Post-Doctoral Research Associate will directly report to the Perennial Systems Scientist and will work closely with other staff at the center, including Research Technicians, Research Interns, Farm Operations Technicians and Organic Consultants.

- Initiating and leading applied research trials including plot establishment and maintenance, data collection from research plots, data management and record-keeping, sample processing, trial management, and data analysis
- Reviewing relevant literature and collecting data for biological, environmental, and economic modelling
- Willingness and ability to work in all environmental conditions
- Preparing grant proposals, research reports, peer-reviewed publications, and outreach and education publications, including bulletins, fact sheets, and web articles
- Presenting research findings in webinars and at regional and national conferences
- Interest in agroforestry, agroecology, and organic agricultural systems
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in horticulture, agronomy, or agricultural, environmental, or natural resource economics, or other relevant biological field related to agriculture or agroecology
- Background in field research, statistical analysis, and data management
- Experience with statistical and modeling software, such as R
- Track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform within deadlines
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with others
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills in English and the ability to communicate cross-culturally
- Ability to obtain a valid driver's license
- Ability to follow health and safety precautions at work
- Prior experience with tree crops or agroforestry
- Prior experience with enterprise budgets and cost studies
- Prior experience with carbon sequestration and environmental modelling
- Grant writing experience
- Some regional and national travel is required.
